There's a lot of software that try to give Winamp a run for its money. So what can Xion Audio Player do that Winamp can't? Firstly, it knows how to be more user friendly.

The installation process can't be any simpler. It won't ask you about file formats or anything. It literally takes a few seconds. Add to that the time to download the 2 and a half Mb kit and it should take under a minute, maybe more if your Internet connection is slow.

Xion Audio Player looks a lot like Winamp, but than again, a lot of audio players look alike. Regarding their basic skin, at least. Xion Audio Player lets you download sleeker looking skins, and it all seems to be free. Besides skin selection, everything is done easily with this program. There are no mile long lists you need to scroll around in. You can do your settings from simple menus, organized in tabs. As for the menus themselves, these are not so many. Just basic configuration you may want to do.

You can create your own skins in an interesting way which doesn't require code writing or anything of the sorts. The program can recognize .PSD files and their layers names. The downside is that, however user friendly this program can be, it fails to tell you how to do that if an inexperienced user wants to give it a go. And on the developer's web site, there is no mention of any free or premium versions of this software.

As far as file formats go, Xion Audio Player recognizes a wide range of them, so you don't need to worry whether it is able to play the most common audio formats, but if you're planning to run a video file with it, forget it. You can't even see video formats when adding new files to the play list.
